On last 18/Jan (thur) as usual i went to my first lecture for that day..it was Usul Fiqh II lecture…at 100 a.m..in arabic..so we were initially discussing the concept of masalih mursalah, its definition, conceptual and legal understanding, its validity as a source of ruling in islamic law etc…the arabic text was quite complicated and was of high standard..thus it was hard for me (the one with no arabic background coming from secular school hahahha) to apprehend it words by words…what more to appreciate its contents…so to facilitate us, or else his lecture ends but to no avail, my lecturer, Ustaz Engku Fadzil opted to explain the meaning for us in english, hahahha…basically there are two schools of thoughts, firstly the one that accepts the concept of masalih mursalah, and secondly, the one opposes it…

Nevertheless, it is not the very idea of this particular entry…what intriques my attention, my friends’ as well i  suppose, was the accidental discussion on Titanic..he told us that he (ustaz) was once watched that movie which eventually made he himself insaf!

As we know (subject to those who already watched it, Zaki is obviously excluded huhuhu) at the very beginning of the movie it potrayed a message that Titanic was not meant for people from every walks of life but elite group with first class lifestyle..showered with luxuries..pampered with opulence..they were very arrogant and proud of themselves, and of course of Titanic…up to the extend "even God cant sink it"

But at the end of the day, it took only a piece of gigantic iceberg to destroy everything…in a situation, where to survive seemed crucially dismal, people who were excessively rich and very proud of their wealth, would desparately offer almost everything they have including their beloved money, just to save their life…but at time of such nature, money is nothing…it was the time when people value their life the most, and forget about everything including the wealth; which they before devoted their whole life for…after all, Titanic sank, tragically..but that was not that suprising yet.., until the moment he explained that, this is actually the very concept of nasfi-nafsi!!

It was just the sinking of Titanic…imagine how worse the situation will be in the Day of Judgment??! It was there in the Holy Quran…A day when everything are out of order..full with desparation, dismay and despair..when even other Prophets sent to mankind will only try to save their own life,having no time to bother about their umat…but the Holy Apostle (PBUH) who will be the only Prophet who are willing, and able, to offer his syafaah upon his umat..

His explaination on how the film had indirectly tought him about life, and warned about the coming of hereafter,was indeed really impressed my friends and i…

Moral of the strory…

1)Watch movies with heart..understand its wisdom and lessons of life it tries to demonstrate..try to look at things beyond what presented..thats what our ‘aql is meant for…

2) life is too short..it is even temporary..so it is much better for us to seriously focus on the promised hereafter…this is the one that last forever…

one good junior of mine send this on hijrah new year celebration yesterday..

"hidup bukan satu pilihan..mati juga bukan satu pilihan..tapi, perjalanan antara hidup dan mati adalah satu pilihan..maka buatlah pilihan yang betul dan tepat"

3) Arrogance is not something to be exercised and upheld..it is just something that invites devastation…

So, lets percieve life with better view..lets be a better adherant of the Almighty Lord of Lords…its not too late…indeed, He is Most-forgiving, Most Merciful…

*that was how my usul fiqh II lecture, the time which i normally slept, on last thursday became a session where we discussed about Titanic and teaching it indirectly posts…i’ll never sleep in class again..hehehhe…
